OUR BELIEFS

Who We Are

We are a congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), making our foundation rooted ultimately in Scripture. These doctrines are outlined in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. Our members come from many different backgrounds, including, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Charismatic and various other Evangelical churches.

The OPC holds ecclesiastical fellowship with such other protestant churches as: The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), the Canadian and American Reformed Churches, the Free Church of Scotland, the United Reformed Churches in North America (URCNA), the Reformed Church in the United States (RCUS) and the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America (RPCNA).

Worship

In worship we hold to the Regulative Principle of Worship, which states that only what God has commanded to be done is lawful during a worship service. Our service is made up primarily of hymns and psalms, praying, and the reading and exposition of the Word of God. As opposed to much of contemporary worship, our services are simple, and not entertainment driven. Our goal is to keep the focus on Jesus rather than ourselves. We believe that the whole family should be in the worship service together, so we do not have any separate children's church.

Our sermons are expositions of the Scriptures. Many current topics are dealt with including: The Doctrines of Grace, the Five Solas of the Reformation, living a godly life, the fruits of the Spirit, and other biblical themes.

Our Beliefs

We believe in the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, and its doctrine of salvation to be the perfect and only true doctrine of salvation.

We believe in the one living and true God, in whom eternally there are three distinct persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit - who are the same in being and equal in power and glory, and that Jesus Christ is God the Son, come in the flesh.

We confess that we are sinful and because our sinfulness we abhor and humble ourselves before God, that we repent of our sin, and that we trust for our salvation not in ourselves but in Jesus Christ alone.

We acknowledge Jesus Christ as our sovereign Lord, and promise that, in reliance on the grace of God, we will serve him with all that is within us, forsake the world, resist the devil, put to death our sinful deeds and desires, and lead a godly life.

We believe consistent Christ-centered fellowship is crucial to a healthy Christian life. Naturally, in the faithful participation in the church’s worship and service, to submit in the Lord to its government, and to heed its discipline, even in case we should be found delinquent in doctrine or life.
